Best Apple Pie
Ingredients: 10 apples, peeled and cut into 1/4" thick slices
2 Tbsp flour
1 cup sugar
1 tsp nutmeg
1 tsp cinnamon
Juice of 1 orange
1 tsp lemon rind
2 Tbsp butter
1/4 cup evaporated milk
1 Tbsp sugar
Preparation: Combine dry ingredients in a Dutch oven, mix in apples. Cook, covered, over medium heat, stirring frequently, until apples are tender when poked with a fork but still hold their shape, 15-20 minutes. Allow to cool to room temperature, about 30 minutes. Transfer apples to a colander, shake to drain off as much juice as possible, discard juice.
Transfer apples to pie crust. Pour juice over. Sprinkle lemon rind over. Dot with butter. Cover with top crust & seal. Mix milk & remaining sugar; brush on top crust. Bake at 350 for 30-45 minutes until golden brown.
